When I study a face, I am watching for attitudes and expressions, that can be revealed in windows to the soul, the eyes. Art has always been a part of my life in one form or another. I have always known what I wanted to be. I use a sketchbook made by Moleskin, I like the way the acid free smooth surface accepts the ink from the fountain ArtPen made by Rotring. I use or as well as the Derwent graphite pencils I use for sketching. My art supplies are varied. I use what ever I can to build a concept or images and thumbnails. I began digitizing my artwork on a flatbed scanner 7 years ago. I found it amazing that I could begin printing reproductions of my artwork at any stage of completion. The scanners made by Epson are in my opinion the most accurate for color and ease of use. The use of Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter software gave my imagination a tremendous boost of possiblities. I began using a digital camera to gather images for use as pallettes of colors and for textures. Eventually, I brazenly cut a trail through the emerging 3d world of art. I learned to use Bryce 3D for terrains that would begin in my imagination. I began exploring this world six years ago. The idea that I could blend an array of skills from traditional fine arts with the emerging world of digital arts was exciting and controversial. I have not looked back since. Because I am serious about the work I do I use all mac professional desktops and laptops made by Apple Computers. I graduated from an Epson 700 Stylus Photo 7 years ago to an Epson R2400 Stylus Photo and now recently to the Epson Stylus Photo 9800 wide format printer. I found the giclees on canvas met my demand for high resolution beyond what I could have imagined. The final images are chosen for limited edition giclees of the the finest museum quality art papers and canvas from Breathing Color and Legion Papers as well as Epson Photo and Art Papers in matte or glossy. In my experience, I have found a richness of color range using the matte canvases and papers for the cutting edge art i enjoy printing. The 44 inch wide format of the Epson 9800 has allowed me to deliver the highest of quality and color saturation available in the pro arts. Using digital has allowed me the freedom I feel in creating what was at one time impossible to even imagine. The figure throughout the history of art has been rendered in a variety of shapes, ideals, forms, to many to count. There are definite challenges in representing the figure in what ever state it’s intended to be The muses are demanding. When the Muse is revealed it is truly a gift.
welcome to the world as seen through my eyes
